Important Message Regarding Proposed Industrial Action
11-May-2011
This message is to make you aware that the University, in common with other Scottish universities, have been notified by the EIS (Educational Institute of Scotland) of intended national industrial action from Monday 16 May. EIS is a trade union representing 176 RGU academic staff in the national (UK) negotiation framework.
The intended industrial action falls short of full strike action but the stated EIS intention is that exam marks may be withheld from the University. At the moment we believe this refers solely to exam marks but cannot rule out the possibility that it covers other forms of assessed work. The EIS do not have to tell the University what the full extent of the action will be. Neither the Student Union nor the University condones this action against our students.
At this stage our expectation is that all students due to graduate in July will do so. The University will undertake specific actions to mitigate any adverse impact on students.
We will both keep you informed of any further developments and either of us may be contacted if you have any concerns whatsoever.
We wish you all every success in your exams.
Best regards,
Ryan Maclean Christine Buchanan
Student President Dean of Students
