Paul Greene (President Communication & Democracy)
Manifesto Aims:
I am completing my 4th year of Management with Marketing at RGU. Having been elected last year as Vice President (Environment & Ethics) and President of RGU People & Planet, I have had a really exciting year which I am excited to build upon in the role of President (Communications & Democracy).
If you would like to be a supporter of my campaign, or ask me any questions then you are most welcome to contact me at vpenet@rguunion.co.uk.
A fair student’s movement
Ensuring that all students are represented and to make sure the union can be as autonomous as its members vote it to be in order to defend student interests.
I want our union to represent a true democracy where the students are in the driving seat.
The diverse nature of our students is at the heart of my thinking and I will ensure the diversity of our student body is not only protected, but represented and celebrated.
Standing up for our services
While we support the move of student services to Garthdee, we cannot reduce some of the largest parts of our organisation to closure or insecurity, including commercial services such as our bar and cafe. The outcome of these services should reflect the voice of the student body so that we are building on success and ensuring the union grows.
We need to ensure that all members of our institution – whether they are society members, students under 18, mature students or others – have a safe place with adequate facilities to meet to ensure our student body remains a thriving part of the Aberdeen community.
I want to secure the future of some of the most successful services we provide because they work, create employment, and can be reinvested into the student body.
Transparent, campus-wide communication
Honest communication between students and their union the decisions which will affect their time at RGU. This includes the move to Garthdee, which requires student interests to be taken into account, as opposed to playing lip service to issues in which they have had little input.
I want to capitalise on union offices moving to Garthdee by ensuring that all schools, including Gray’s and the Scott Sutherland School are properly represented. I will also ensure that students are readily made aware of the goings on of elected students through improving both internal communication and communication with the student body.
It’s time to take action on communication to ensure the students know what is going on at their union and to ensure that each school is fully represented.
Voting begins at 9pm on 5th Mar and runs through until Midday on 8th Mar. Cast your vote through the Union website at rguunion.co.uk
