What is a Student Rep and what do they do?
Student Representatives are the students who have chosen to represent the views of class and/or Faculty on issues during the University year.
The main thrust of the Student Rep’s job is to gather the views of their classmates and convey these constructively at University meetings and to staff members.
All Schools hold Staff-Student Liaison meetings each Semester to discuss any issues arising and these meetings are an opportunity to put forward class/Faculty views on the learning and teaching they are receiving. These meetings discuss how the course is going generally and consider any issues arising from student feedback.
Student Reps are also invited to other meetings with fellow Student Representatives, with the respective Heads of School and/or the Deans of Faculty to make sure that at all levels the University is able to understand and react to what being a student is like.
At each of these meetings the Student Rep role is simple: to make sure that committee members know what it is like to be a student and to pass on information about the Student Rep experience.
Student Reps have the following specific responsibilities:
- To be available to members of the class/Faculty and to gather their views, concerns and opinions.
- To attend and participate in Staff-Student Liaison Meetings.
- To give feedback to class/faculty members following meetings and to communicate to them any other matters of interest.
