EIS Suspends Industrial Action

24-May-2011

This message is to inform you that the University has reached an amicable agreement with the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS). The Students’ Union is pleased to report to students that the RGU branch of the EIS has formally suspended their industrial action short of strike action with immediate effect.

The action, which involved the potential for withholding of exam marks, has been opposed by the Students’ Union at all times, and following meetings with both the University and the EIS representative for RGU it is pleasing to see that the student voice can make a difference.

This positive development comes following a statement made by the University as follows:

“Robert Gordon University has clearly demonstrated its commitment over recent years, often in extremely challenging circumstances, to develop, plan for and implement change, as far as possible, without recourse to compulsory redundancy and intends that this commitment will continue over the next academic year”.

While the Students’ Union recognises the importance of Staff in providing a high quality education and ensuring that Students get from enrolment to graduation, any action that disrupts that journey will be firmly opposed.

Best regards,

Ryan Maclean Christine Buchanan
