Following recent news, Clueless, a 90s high school chick flick classic, box office smash and cult classic, has been set for a modern remake and the fans of the original movie have shared mixed feelings.

Paramount Pictures will be developing the remake of this comedy with Girls Trip writer Tracy Oliver producing.

Oliver tweeted: "Crazy excited to be producing a *new* take on one of my favourite movies of all time, #Clueless, with the hilarious and super talented @MarqRobinson writing it. As if."

The original film which was released in 1995, starring Alicia Silverstone as a rich teenager living in LA is actually a modern take based on the plot of Jane Austen’s novel Emma. In the 1815 novel, a matchmaker attempts to set up all of her friends with someone just like in Clueless. Cher definitely isn’t exactly Cupid, causing drama around her Beverley Hills neighbourhood.

The question a lot of fans are asking is this what would a 2018 remake look like, given that Clueless is so clearly set in the 90s? Cher and Dionne are both named after famous singers in the 70’s, will the two main characters be called Britney and possibly Mariah?

Also, will “Britney” perhaps be an influencer/blogger and/or a YouTuber? Will she have thousands of followers on social media? We won’t find out any of this information, not for another few months at least.

Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.
