Melanie Martinez is an American singer who was made famous on American talent show, The Voice. From there, she produced her first single “Dollhouse” before debuting her studio album “Cry Baby”. Her music explores various themes such as dysfunctional families, negative body image, kidnapping and murder. The album itself is a concept album that focuses on her own experiences.
On the 4th of December, Timothy Heller accused Melanie Martinez of rape. She claimed that the singer sexually assaulted her back in June 2015, according to the tweet. In her tweet, Heller accuses Martinez of making her uncomfortable when Heller was not interested. Martinez begged to feel her breasts and then tried to convince her to play a game with handcuffs.
"I was laughing along at first," Heller said in her tweet. "But Melanie was so serious."
She then goes on to claim that Martinez continuously tried to coerce her into sex only to then perform oral sex.
“The bottom line that I always need to remind myself is that: I said no. For TWO NIGHTS STRAIGHT,” Heller tweeted.
After the allegation, Martinez responded to her claims on Twitter, claiming that Heller “never said no to what they did together” and that she was “horrified and saddened by the statements told.”
Heller never intended on naming her abuser but was inspired to do so after the various outings of sexual assault allegations against various people in Hollywood. As she wraps up her post, she says “I beg you to imagine her role in this being a man. Girls can rape girls. Best friends can rape best friends. Friendship does not equal consent. Silence does not equal consent. I wish it was not so hard for me to convince myself of these things.”
Heller had been taking time from social media to deal with this but there is no indication of legal actions being taken on either end.
