On Friday 28th February, a special time of the year arrived for the video game calendar, Pokémon Presents - a specialised showcase of some of the finest works in progress from its creators. The guests that appeared on the Pokémon Presents livestream were Tsunekazu Ishihara - the president of the Pokémon Company - and Takato Utsunomiya - the Chief Operating Officer of the Pokémon Company.

First on the agenda was the announcement that New Pokémon Snap will be coming out at the end of next month on the Nintendo Switch. New Pokémon Snap is an updated version of the much loved classic Pokémon Snap featuring new Pokémon and updated graphics.

Next up was the highly anticipated remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl - originally released in 2007 in Europe. These remakes are now called Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. These remakes are described as being “faithful” to the original games with improved graphics being prominent. On social media, there were mixed opinions about these new graphics with some people not appreciating the “chibi” style of the game. However, others praised the game for taking the visuals in a completely new direction. This is due to be released later on this year.

Finally, a brand new Pokémon game was announced which fans now know as Pokemon Legends Arceus. Looking at the game reminded fans of a crossover between Pokémon and Breath of the Wild (a Legend of Zelda game released on the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch). Pokemon Legends Arceus will also take place in the Sinnoh region just like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The twist is that this game will instead take place in the past and it is the player’s job to create the first ever Pokédex. That sounds like an adventure in itself! It is scheduled for release in early 2022.

Considering that it has been 25 years since Pokémon was created, the Pokémon Company has done an exceptional job to showcase their works in progress as well as getting their fans hyped for what’s to come in the future. Pokémon fans old and new will surely appreciate the range of games on offer - whether it’s to bring that sense of nostalgia or to give them a taste of adventure!
