RGU operates a Fit to Sit policy, meaning that by undertaking an assessment you are declaring your fitness (mentally and/or physically) to undertake that assessment. In essence, if you sit an exam/submit an assessment, then you are saying that you are fit enough to do so.

DELTA, in collaboration with the RGU Governance & Academic Quality department and RGU:Union, have produced a video focusing on RGU’s Fit to Sit Policy, which you can watch below:

During your studies, you may find you experience extenuating circumstances that impact on your ability to perform to your capabilities during assessments and exams. Extenuating circumstances are defined as: “exceptional, serious, acute and unforeseen problems or events which genuinely affect your preparation for an assessment or your ability to undertake the assessment and/or submit a coursework on time, and  which were out with your control”.

Where students are experiencing extenuating circumstances that are impacting studies, you might want to consider an Extension or a Deferral.

You can find the Fit to Sit Policy and all the relevant forms here: Student and Applicant Forms | Academic Governance | RGU.

Where these circumstances are extended and having a prolonged impact on your university experience, you may wish to apply for an Authorised Interruption of Studies. This will be where a student can apply to take up to a year out of their academics and isn’t included in your period of enrolment.

Students can normally only apply for this once (only in exceptional cases will this be permitted twice) and you should always consult the Fit to Sit policy alongside reaching out to your personal tutor and course.
