ERIN WYNESS

Hello all RGU students! I am Erin Wyness , currently studying MSc Management at RGU after graduating from a degree in BA(Hons) Events Management in July.

I’m running for the Vice President of Sport role in this by-election as I’m passionate about student sport and the development of clubs for student experience. I have been involved in sport within the University for over 4 years, providing me with extensive knowledge on many of the clubs but also in club development and performance.

As President of rowing for the past four years, I have worked closely with the RGU:Sport team and members of the Union to deliver an effective University sports club programme. Through this role I have also worked closely with the University of Aberdeen through a collaboration between the two University sports clubs, meaning I have worked with two University Sports Unions and systems. My experience as a President has provided me with appreciation of many roles required to create a strong dynamic within clubs. Through my role in sport I have been an RGU student-athlete myself as a Sport Scholar, I have coached student-athletes, and I have been the head of a sport committee for four years developing the club to become a performance based sports club. These experiences have provided me with the skills required of the role of VP of Sport to develop and support YOUR sports clubs! I also sit on the Scottish Student Sport (SSS) Leadership Programme which is a platform for student personal development, with a particular emphasis on enhancing leadership skills for student sport. Through this opportunity I aim to pursue my own development to better the sports clubs at RGU.

I have set out main aims I wish to achieve on behalf of the sporting student body over the next 8 months. These are as follows in no particular order:

FUNDRAISING - I aim to support and facilitate all clubs fundraising efforts for the rest of the year by providing support to develop plans for these events. I hope to facilitate bimonthly drop in session and workshops for support on sponsorship and fundraising for ALL sports clubs. With my extensive knowledge of fundraising having raised over £40,000 in four years at the University for sport.

CLUB DEVELOPMENT - Work closely with clubs on individual club development including the strategic aims of clubs through my knowledge and experience in this area with the RGU SPADOs and individual governing bodies of sport

CALENDAR - I aim to create a comprehensive RGU Sports Clubs calendar to create a stronger network within RGU Sports Forum, to allow for better cohesion and support between clubs, FOR clubs!

COMMUNICATION - Improve the communication from the Sports office to clubs through increased frequency of communication. I also aim to increase the communication of social media coverage of our sporting successes at RGU with more coverage throughout the University social media pages and beyond

SPORTS FORUM - Strengthening the sports forum to ensure each club has their say and their issues are supported and dealt with appropriately and efficiently

INCLUSIVITY - Drive the already progressive environment by focusing on SPORT FOR ALL within the University and encouraging participation within all sport teams.

ATHLETE MENTAL HEALTH - Working with the pre-established Mental Health Agreement campaign to improve athletes overall health in the RGU Sport System, as I believe mental health for sportspeople is of high importance to performance

Thank you for reading my manifesto for this years election - make sure to use YOUR vote to Vote for Erin between 12th-15th of November 2018!
