IVAN OKOLI-EJIKE

Who am I?

My name is Ivan Okwesilieze Okoli-Ejike (1517287), I am an international student studying Mechanical and Offshore Engineering in 3rd year. I am currently class rep for the 3rd year engineering class, and I believe my experience as a leader has allowed me to listen and act on student’s challenges. If elected VP of Student Affairs, I will make relevant changes where needed to ensure students have the necessary support they need to improve student experience in RGU.

I believe in…

People, change, planning and communication. Being a firm believer that anyone can change given the right circumstance, I have understood that this circumstances can happen through proper planning and communication. Having experienced it this semester, one of our coursework which had been released at an over booked point of the semester was pushed back by a cooperation between I and my fellow class reps. This was done through, taking a tally of those who preferred it be moved back and presenting the argument to the lecturer showing the percentage of the class who wanted it moved back due to the number of coursework’s each branch had to complete within a 2 weeks deadline. This demonstrates my ability to lead and manage a team, communicate effectively and effect change.

I aim to…

  • Improve communication between the students, their class reps, the lecturers and union.
  • Ensure a give and take relationship between the students in all schools in RGU.
  • Increase awareness and participation in union events opportunity and information circulation.
  • Represent all students from every school/ section under RGU.
  • Promote RGU to prospective students through referrals from current students as a result of my improving their overall experience in RGU.

I know that …

Recalling the saying that no man can be an island, I am aware that I can’t achieve this change by myself. Therefore, to achieve this change, I will ensure a close working relationship with the students and the union alike.
