Hi! I’m Ribh O’Neill and I’m running to be your Vice President Community for 2021-22.

MY EXPERIENCE

Currently I am a third year BA(Hons) Media student and am very active in RGU:Union. Within this current year, 2020-2021, I am the Equality Champion for Disability and Inclusion, Assistant Editor in Chief for RGU Radar and the Secretary/Treasurer for RGU Radio. I also played an active part in helping pass an AGM motion, which aimed to seek equal resources and additional hardship support for all RGU students, and set up RGU RAG: Cares2Craft. As part of these roles I’ve gained great skills in communication, teamwork and innovation.

MY GOALS

Within my time as your new VP Community I would like to accomplish four main goals.

HELP ON-CAMPUS WILDLIFE

RGU has lots of green space, however a lot more could be done to help the wildlife in our environment. In order to try and support this great cause I will work with students and the Union to place a bee garden, bird feeders and bird huts throughout the campus area.

BETTER NETWORKING BETWEEN STUDENT GROUPS

Student groups are at the heart of what makes RGU a community, as lockdown has clearly demonstrated. To further develop the RGU community, however, I will work with the student media groups to encourage further promotion and attract wider student engagement with the various amazing groups we have at RGU. This would involve more Q&A articles with the committees of student groups and encourage more groups to have their very own podcasts.

MORE DIVERSE VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Over lockdown I set up the new RGU:Union group RGU RAG: Cares2Craft where students can knit, sew and crochet items for charities and hospitals. I would like to expand volunteering opportunities by working with the local community and create volunteering roles that suit a range of skill sets. RGU students have a range of talents and I would like to create volunteering opportunities that reflect this.

A MORE SUSTAINABLE RGU:UNION

During my role as VP Community I would like to discuss and work with RGU:Union to create various ways that they can try and adapt their activities to become more environmentally-friendly. For instance, whilst offering free sanitary wear is fantastic, offering plastic-free options would be even more brilliant.

If you would like to see these amazing changes happen within your university, vote for me to be your VP Community.
