What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?

I have previously occupied leadership positions at my home institution where I pursued my undergraduate studies. I assumed the role of the Course representative for my department, and in addition, I held a position as an executive member of the Nigerian Association of Computing Students for my school chapter, serving as the Public Relations Officer. I am convinced that my skill in effective communication greatly enhances my capacity to establish strong connections with students. I consider myself to be an empathetic individual, capable of comprehending and appreciating diverse perspectives and viewpoints of students, and responding adequately to their needs. One way to make our Societies much more impactful is by knowing students want, interests and what they would not hesitate to give time and attention to.
I have as well participated in a number of events organized by societies at the school and they have been good experiences so far.

Priority Aim 1

Increase Membership Diversity in Societies
Why? - We are trying to reflect the diversity of our student body. Being diverse creates a space for inclusivity, exchange of ideas coming from various think points. This would be good when it comes to enhancing the overall student experience.
Problem - Limited representations of different backgrounds.
Plan- Raising awareness about the societies and the benefits of membership.
Organize events and initiatives that celebrate diversity within student societies, such as cultural festivals.
Creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and dialogue can foster understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives.

Priority Aim 2

• Foster Leadership and Professional Development Opportunities
Priority - By focusing on leadership and professional development within societies, we can empower students to cultivate essential skills, explore their interests, and prepare for future career opportunities.
Problem: Many students may lack access to structured leadership and professional development opportunities outside of the classroom. Additionally, students may be unaware of the potential for leadership and professional growth within student societies.
Plan - Implement leadership training programs within societies.
Networking events within societies to connect members with professionals, alumni and a lot more among other things.

Priority Aim 3

Enhance Student Well-being and Mental Health Support through Societies.
Societies one way or the other should be able to attend to members needs no matter how little, in any capacity. They play a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging, connection and support among students. Many students experience extreme stress, anxiety, and other challenges during their academic journey. A lot of times students do not know where to turn to for assistance, i feel the union is doing a great job when it comes to helping out students in such situations, we can only work and improve on that.

What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?

I believe the university has given a number of safe platforms where students can come with their issues and problems and express it all.
The major issue i have noticed so far bothering a number of students is on the issue of the fees payment structure and how the school could possible adjust a number of thing to mount off pressure from the students and allow them to actually focus on why they actually came to school-academics.
I believe we would continue to work hand in hand with the school management on making the situation better.
