What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?

As a former Project Manager and current Class Representative in the Project Management department, I bring a wealth of experience in leadership, collaboration, and effective communication. Managing projects has honed my organizational skills and strategic thinking, ensuring efficient execution. My role as Class Representative showcases my ability to advocate for student needs, gather feedback, and foster positive change. I possess a deep understanding of the academic environment, and my commitment to educational excellence aligns with the responsibilities of the Vice President of Education at Robert Gordon University (RGU). My skills in project management, combined with a student-centric approach, make me a strong candidate for this vital role.

Priority Aim 1

My primary aim is to improve the student learning experience by implementing an inclusive curriculum and assessment methods catering to students with additional needs such as physical disabilities, neurodivergence, and mental health concerns. This is a priority because inclusivity fosters a supportive academic environment, addressing diverse student needs. The problem being addressed is the exclusion of additional-needs students from optimal learning experiences. To achieve this, I plan to facilitate and integrate adaptive measures into the curriculum and assessment processes, ensuring equal educational opportunities for all students and creating a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Priority Aim 2

Secondly, my aim is to enhance students' awareness of current industry trends through an implemented strategy and campaign. This initiative prioritizes keeping students informed, crucial for their professional development. The problem to be addressed is the potential gap between academic knowledge and industry demands. To achieve this, I plan to create an Education Bank to disseminate real-time industry insights and deploy a comprehensive awareness strategy. By doing so, students can align their skills with current trends, fostering better preparedness for the job market.

Priority Aim 3

Lastly, my aim is to implement a culture of inclusivity and diversity in academic programs through initiatives such as student commitment awards, interdisciplinary collaborations, and a curriculum highlighting Aberdeen people and culture. This is a priority because diversity enriches learning experiences, preparing students for a globalized world. The problem to address is the lack of inclusivity, hindering holistic education. The plan is to implement specific programs, recognizing student commitment, fostering cross-school partnerships, and integrating local culture into the curriculum, ensuring a more inclusive academic environment.

What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?

The predominant issue facing students at Robert Gordon University is the challenge of mental health and well-being, exacerbated by academic pressures. To address this, I propose collaborative efforts among Student Presidents and Vice Presidents. Together, we will implement comprehensive mental health programs, destigmatize seeking support, and ensure accessible counseling services. By fostering a united approach, we aim to create a supportive community, prioritize student welfare, and collectively advocate for institutional policies that promote a healthy balance between academic rigor and mental well-being.
