Racheal Folake Adedokun – Candidate for the position of Postgraduate Governor

My name is Racheal Folake Adedokun, I am currently a Doctoral research student in Management here at Robert Gordon University. My research title is on “Restructuring energy systems for sustainability – Energy transition policies. I had graduated last year with a Master’s in Business Administration with Merit and opted to continue my study here because I enjoyed the atmosphere and opportunities this campus provides. I have Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria.

I am a serial entrepreneur having set-up businesses in Home management, maternity, children and toddler retail stores, educational advice services, and so many more which are in the pipeline. I love creating and innovating, which are some of the traits I am bringing forward as your representative. I am an active member of NGOs such as Pistis Foundation in Nigeria, which provide welfare services such as healthcare, prison visit, training and scholarships for indigents in the society etc., Time to Heal to help women who had or currently experiencing violence and Women in Sustainability to drive home the importance of sustainability. Other roles I have occupied include Financial Analyst, Account Officer, Business Development Officer, Financial Contract Assessment Consultant, Account Manager to mention a few. I am an RGU Student Ambassador beaming out the light of the University to the outside world.

I really don’t want to bore you with my past achievements but needed to showcase what I have done in the past. Like the Geologists will say “The past is the key to the future”. I have had my numerous achievements because of dedication, perseverance and patient dogmatic approach to issues which ensures I don’t leave anything behind, every goal must be achieved or better yet have an excellent explanation for demoting is for a superior one.

I am aware of so many challenges students face in our university, especially the postgraduate students namely: conducive classrooms, ambiguity in determining honours students, transportation and parking costs, access to best kinds of meal on campus, to mention a few. I am bringing myself forward to provide a new dimension on how the school operates. I am business-oriented and only believe in providing value, so the University must operate as such. I know most of the Postgraduate scholars on this campus personally, that I because I share your concerns and only want to use this platform to make it know to Management and ensure all future changes involves a strong deliberation among every stakeholder.

In summary, if elected I am proposing the following:

  • Provide better advisory and counselling opportunities to students especially the new overseas one who need all help in the first couple of weeks (I.e. Accommodation).
  • Provide a Personalised tour or group tour to new students of Aberdeen and its environment.
  • Create a one-point student enquiry service that removes the confusion of several help lines.
  • Working with management and other student union representative to provide an unambiguous marking template that will ensure every student graduate with a class of honour they deserve.
  • Working to discuss a better transportation provision for RGU students with further discounts based on all the economic indices of this trying time.
  • Create room for more social networking events on campus as we are 21st century students who requires much more than academics to be fulfilled.
  • Encourage continuity in all the past project from the outgoing governing council and student union.

These and many other more initiatives and avenue I will provide to give the student back the power to determine how we drive the activities on campus going forward. Thank you, Thank ye.
