For a Supportive Learning Experience. Inclusivity, Diversity, Equality

Hello RGU students and staff.

Patricia Innocent is my name. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a post-graduate student studying Public Health and Health Promotion, and I am a class representative. I have been in the education sector as a student and teacher for over 10years, and these past months, I've held the position of Student President International College Robert Gordon University. This has given me in-depth knowledge of what students need in order to excel and also, how to work with the school management in order to achieve common goals.

Furthermore, I have a keen interest in working in a collaborative environment. This means it is not about me, but everyone one of us from our diverse backgrounds, cultural and religious beliefs, we would all work together. Passion for your physical, educational, and mental well-being drives me which is why each of my objectives seeks your wellbeing. My numerous years of experience in the education sector have given me a wealth of knowledge making me competent, resourceful, and proactive. These are some of the reasons I got nominated and shortlisted for the RGU: Union Student Achievement Awards 2022 under the ‘Individual Awards’ category.

As a student, you should vote for me because I would be your voice at the Union. I am responsible, adaptable and capable of understanding different points of view. I have great communication skills. This means that I will attentively listen to your concerns and needs, then courageously convey these to the school management and effectively follow it up, so as to achieve the desired result.

MY OBJECTIVES:

TIMETABLE FLEXIBILITY

Online option for all courses towards achieving flexibility in our challenging everyday lives. This would encourage individuals with children to chase their dreams while catering to the needs of their families. Covid has taught us that this is doable.

FAMILY ACCOMMODATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Availability of school accommodation at reduced rates for international families to stay (maximum of 5 individuals for one month) while searching for more suitable accommodation. This will give international students with dependents one less thing to worry about, in a foreign land.

FREE MEALS ON WELL-BEING WEDNESDAYS FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS

In order to encourage Wellbeing Wednesday, a partnership with RGU catering services will be established to ensure students and staff get free coffee and sandwich between 2pm and 3 pm on ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’. This would help uplift the spirit of the RGU community as this exciting day and time would be something to look forward to.

RGU EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY FAYRE.

This would be a day set aside once a semester, to learn about our diversity. On this day, we get together as a people, irrespective of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, religious or cultural belief. There will be discussions on disabilities (physical and non-physical such as dyslexia), LGBTQ+ community,  religion, gender-based inequality, and much more. Groups, Societies, and communities would have stalls set up for the event.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

There will be more exposure towards job placement for international students to gain UK work experience. This will be achieved through partnership with the school and other organizations.
