Vote for Gbenga and reap the rewards of leadership.

My name is Gbenga Ayodele. I am a student representative for MSc Business Management students. I am studying business and financial management at the master's level (September 2021 set). In the forthcoming RGU Student Union election, I will be running for the position of President, Education and Welfare.

I have a track record of corporate and student leadership experience, both local and international, that would afford me the competence required for this post. I was the MBA student governor for the 2015/16 student set at Obafemi Awolowo University. I have more than 7 years of corporate leadership experience from various institutions like Guaranty Trust Bank, Union Bank, and Oxford International Group. I have just been appointed as casual staff Team Lead at P & J Live Aberdeen, an appointment which can be attributed to my leadership skills and capacity developed over the years.

As a student representative, I have identified the three major areas where students are having issues, which are:

  • Student social life: It is observed that students find it challenging to connect and socialize with one another. This weakens students study groups and, in turn, impacts student academic performance negatively.
  • Student on-campus engagement, for example student inclusiveness and participation in campus activities, is not encouraging. The campus ought to be a lively place even during the weekends.
  • Students’ employability and entrepreneurship.

If I am elected President of Education and Welfare;

  • I will set up a platform for students tagged “RGU student connect” to create an avenue for all students to socialize and connect with one another with the purpose of ensuring students’ success at all levels of engagement in the university.
  • I will regularly organize on-campus events for students to close the student on-campus engagement gap
  • I will seek collaboration between the RGU union and indigenous/international firms to close the employability gap.

These and many more are what I intend to achieve. My mission would be to ensure students’ success at all levels of engagement with the university, not only in academics, but also in the areas of career, social life, and sports. I will ensure student representation at all levels of the university from all identities and backgrounds. I am therefore calling on all students to join me as we do this together, and I can assure you that your voice will be heard and, together, we can make RGU a better place for everyone.
