What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?

I am currently serving as the Student School Officer (SSO) for the CCB School. In this role, I have partnered with the School and Union to implement enhancement projects such as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) training and sessions organized for CCB Class Reps and Staff. I have also created quicker and more effective feedback channels for the Reps which has led to prompter resolution of issues.

I also serve as Class Rep (International Marketing Class of Jan 2022). Through this role, I have effectively received and delivered feedback from my classmates to the CCB school (and vice versa). I have managed diverse relationships, created a channel of communication, and enhanced the learning experience for my classmates.

In my spare time, I volunteer with a local befriending charity where I utilize my marketing skills to drive their mission.

I am an advocate of continuous learning, personal development, and selfless service.

Priority Aim 1

Quality education must be adapted and innovated to meet the current demands of our fast-paced, rapidly advancing world.

Many students currently struggle to understand the teaching resources and methods due to their diverse backgrounds. I will work with the University administration to ensure that innovation is introduced into the curriculum and teaching methodologies to simplify comprehension and grant students the freedom to embrace diverse forms of thinking thereby owning their learning experience.

This would be achieved through advocacy for increased funding for academic resources, such as libraries, research & Innovation centers, and 1-on-1 tutoring services.

Priority Aim 2

In celebrating our diversity, we must respect our differences and give equal chances to everyone to succeed.

I plan to enhance the ongoing work on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) being done by the school to ensure that no one is unrepresented, misrepresented or excluded based on their protected characteristics.

I will foster relationships and partnerships with student groups, communities, societies, and clubs to promote initiatives that create an EDI-friendly campus.

I will drive student engagement through these partnerships by encouraging multi-channel connections and keeping an open-door policy to myself and the union.

Priority Aim 3

An ideal student is one who has ample support to succeed and is empowered with resources to thrive in an enabling environment. The well-being of students and their families can be threatened through academic, health, emotional, mental, physical, or financial challenges (such as the current cost of living crisis).

Through strategic partnerships with other student union representatives, school management, and third-party organizations, I will relentlessly pursue and advocate for policies that support student success, such as flexible course scheduling, childcare resources, affordable feeding, travel and accommodation options, mental well-being programs, external funding opportunities and skills enhancement.

What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?

The cost-of-living crisis in the UK is one of the biggest issues currently affecting the finances most adversely thereby making it difficult for students to afford basic amenities and essentials. Other common issues include mental health mostly linked to academic pressure.

To address these issues, I will liaise with other union executives to implement various initiatives to support students. These would include diversifying counselling services and making them more accessible to support mental health, partnering with schools to provide aids that would help students survive the crisis and advocating for policies that reduce academic stress and promote work-life balance.
