What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?

I am the current President for RGU Gaming and have been for the last two years. Being in this position has allowed me to build on my leadership and team work skills, but also helped me to build my confidence and help with taking initiative. Our society was voted 'Most Improved Society' last year at the Student Achievement Awards and I feel with the knowledge I have gained from helping to maintain and improve a society could be useful to all societies within the union. I love working together with others to help make ideas into reality and tackling the challenges that may come with this. I am hard working and dedicated to ensuring that people from all walks of life can find somewhere that they belong within the union, and help make university a fun and exciting experience that isn't soley focused on education.

Priority Aim 1

Bring awareness about the positive impact of socities on University life. I believe this is a priority as we all have hobbies and interests. Maybe you would like to engage in activities with others with simiar beliefs, views or interests, or even if you wish to meet and engage with other students in your course. Societies are an excellent way to meet people and help unload the stress of being a university student. I will work with the union to help with more ways to get our societies out there, through events within the university or by social media.

Priority Aim 2

Work on more collaborations with different societies and student groups. I believe this is a priority as in my time with running a society, hosting events with other societies has been a lot of fun and we recieved amazing membership feedback. Collaborations allow us to meet people from different groups and break down any barriers there may be within the societies, helping the union to feel like one big family and allow us to support our peers. I have ideas on how to turn this aim into reality by hosting events and activities with different societies and student groups.

Priority Aim 3

Assist our societies with ways to keep up engagement. One thing most societies struggle with is how to keep their members returning to their events or sessions. It can be difficult to make time in a busy schedule for students to engage in these activities every week. I believe that there is a way to combat this by working together with committees and their members to help with a plan of action that works for the majority. Another way to keep up engagement is to host regular events, which I hope to help different societies to plan and host.

What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?

The biggest issue with students currently is trying to balance a busy work schedule and taking care of their mental/physical health. University can be a daunting place when deadlines are piling up and it can be hard for students to try take time for themselves. Working with student representaives I believe we can come up with ideas on how to combat these difficult times by using our respective expertise, while helping to reduce the pressure that students may have on campus, and show that university is not just for academia, but to make friends, get involved and have fun.
