The RGU Cricket Club is a young club compared to many of our fellow university clubs. Founded in 2007, with a group of lads who enjoyed the game, enjoyed away days and most of all enjoyed their Wednesday nights. Our first president invested much of his time starting the club, organising our training sessions and recruiting as many players as possible. From this hard work, the roots of the club were formed. Starting in Division 4 and with no more than seven or eight people regularly playing, the club heavily relied on friends to help make numbers up. However, here we are in our 2016 season where on the pitch we are competing in the Scotland Universities top tier, competing against all of Scotland major university first XI. All due to the fact that we have been promoted 3 seasons in a row. I believe that's back to back to back promotion. Has this feat been achieved at RGU sport before? Further compounding our story, we have now secured our new sponsorship with The Illicit Still which we hope to continue for the foreseeable future. In addition to our achievements we won our first Granite City match two years ago. We came runners up in our national indoor competition twice and our looking to win it this year in Edinburgh. Whereafter we will go out into the capital for one of our main social events of the year. We have members representing Scottish universities and a member representing Scotland herself touring regularly with the national squad. Even one of our players was the captain of Italy u15s. Our club has an affiliation with local Aberdeen club Arrowdawn Gordonians C.C. whom with we play, train and socialise. On top of this for the 2016 season we have the addition of the Gordonians New Zealand pro cricketer who will aid us with coaching and training sessions this year. Our club is a very diverse with ages ranging from 17 up through to the late 20s with honours, masters, PhD students and postgraduates all involved. Everyone is welcome in rgucc. Even if you have never played the game we still recommend you try, after all our roots stem from a team of all abilities! The club still has much more growth left in it and will continue to shoot upwards!
