Red Dead Redemption is set in 1899, which is 12 years before RDR 1 and 19 years after Red Dead Revolver. Gamers will play Arthur who has to look out for himself as bounty hunters and lawmen want to get rid of outlaw gangs. Arthur has to try and balance the allegiances to the gang and put himself in position to prosper. There are a number of NPCs and animals that you will meet throughout the game as well as the ability to hunt and fish which is crucial to survival. You will need to use real world skills to survive such as looking for the correct bait for fishing and tracking animals.

Horses are also crucial to the game as it is set in a cowboy-esque style as there are around 20 different breeds of horses; each of them handles differently and have unique characteristics. They will need grooming though as they get muddy which will slow them down. You can choose what position you ride in when you are in a group. When you groom your horse, you can change the style of its mane and tail – adding braids or dreadlocks – and also change the saddle, blanket, stirrups, reins and saddle horn. Please make sure you take care of it though, as if the horse dies – it’s gone forever so make sure you tell it to flee.

Here are some fun facts that people can’t wait to do/see in the game:

Rotting Meat: You have to cook the meat you get from hunting otherwise it will go bad and rot. If Arthur doesn't eat, he can lose weight but also if he eats too much, he will gain weight.

Self-Maintenance: Arthur can get a little dirty whilst out and about which means you have to self-maintain as NPCs will judge you for being too dirty. Arthur’s hair will grow longer over time and you can customise his haircut and facial hair but be warned – if you do cut his hair, you will have to wait for it to grow back rather than pick a style which requires more hair!

Conflict Resolution: You don’t have to kill everything in sight but if you want something, you can try and talk to the person of interest or antagonize them whichever floats your boat.

Fatigue: Trying to keep the peace can get tiring so rest up to avoid having fatigue

Outfits: Super customisable with the option of having your trousers in your boots or your sleeves rolled up. If he has mud or blood, NPCs will react differently than if he were clean.

Bandanas: Putting on a bandana during a crime and taking it off afterwards will make the wanted meter go away faster if you are out of the search radius.

The game is a sure way to spend those long winter nights that are upon us, as there will be so much to immerse yourself in. Make sure to find a comfy seat and be prepared for many hours of excellent gameplay and story arcs.
