By-Election Record for RGU:Union

Voting for the RGU:Union’s By-Elections 2016 had ended earlier today (17th November 2016), and the results have just come in.

April Cuffy, with a comfortable lead was elected to the post of Postgraduate University Governor.

Ritchie Duncan, also with a comfortable lead, was elected to the post of President (Sport & Physical Education).

The third, and last, position open for the elections was the post of the Vice President of Environment & Ethics. As per RGU:Union’s announcement, complaints were received against one of the candidates, Gonzalo Lara De Leyva. Upon investigation, the claims were founded, and the candidate was disqualified. In line with procedure, the votes were redistributed towards the other candidates, as per the preference displayed. Thereafter, Boma Fubara was declared the winner for this position.

With 722 votes cast, this by-election has set a record for RGU:Union, with regards to student participation. The Union extends a warm thank you to all those who participated.
