RGU Football Club was founded in 1992-93. However, the club was in existence well before that under the name RGIT. Archaeologists have stated that there is evidence of RGIT’s existence as far back as 1982. The club started with a first team who eventually won the British Plate in 2004.  This was a catalyst for an explosion of interest into our game, starting a 2nd team. This interest also instigated the move from our home at Kepplestone to the fondly named and newly built 3g pitch, the Garthdee Garage in 2006. During this period the alumni from the club created the RGU amateurs, who joined and still play in the local amateur league.

 

From starting at the lowest level the club has now won 3 league titles and a league cup. Consistently thought of as one of the best amateur teams in the north. President Graham MacDougall 2011-14 stabilised the club after some turbulent times and also started a 3rd team. This secured our club quality mark of 3 stars, making us only the university  2nd football club in Scotland to achieve this award.

 

The coaching team consists of 3 role models who shape the teams to provide the teams with the tools to go out and win every game.  Our head coach is Filippo Antoniazzi, director of sport. Sandy McNaughton - all time leading goal scorer for Dunfermline FC - and Alan Walker - volunteer of the year (2014). The club now has a total of 5 teams - 3 Wednesday mens teams, 1 female Wednesday team and 1 Saturday amateur team.

 

Presently the club prides itself on being a family club, welcoming new and committed individuals. “We are more than just a club”

 

Our current sponsor is the Monkey House (Union Street just down from KFC). This venue is primarily a sports bar and show all major sporting events as well as football. It is the cheapest old style bar in the city and has a growing student scene with a number of RGU sports teams and societies as their sponsor.
