President (Communication & Democracy)

Welcome to Refreshers

Congratulations on being accepted to study at Robert Gordon University this year! We are your elected Student Presidents, and we are here to represent your views and make your time at uni the best it can be. University life is very different, but we know that you’re going to have the time of your life!

RGU:Union is your Students Union, where we focus on making your student experience as enjoyable as possible. You are automatically a member of the Union, so it is up to you to make the most of the opportunities and service we can offer you. The Union is run by a team of students, some as full time Presidents, as well as part time voluntary Vice Presidents. Our job is to be your voice, and to represent you in a number of different areas.

As well as that, we also offer you a huge amount of opportunities ranging from sports clubs, to charity fundraising, to volunteering, to student media, and societies of all shapes and sizes. There is no shortage of ways to get involved with the Union during your time at RGU, so make sure you sign up for as many clubs, societies and opportunities as possible, and find something that you are passionate about!

Along with making university life fun and giving you a chance to be a part of the student movement, we are also here to look after your wellbeing. University can be stressful at times, so we offer confidential advice, support and listening services for anyone having a tough time. Whatever you need to make your student life better, we’re here to help.

Refreshers Week

However, before all of that, you’ll have to actually start university! In Feburary, we shall be hosting our Refreshers Week! This is a chance for you to get to know more about what studying at RGU will be like, and try and integrate with various students studying here in Aberdeen. During the week, we will host various events such as our Refreshers Fayre, free film festival, and more to help you meet new people, learn about RGU:Union and have a great time.

You can find out more about Refreshers Week by visiting: www.rguunion.co.uk/refreshers

Virtual Freshers Fayre

This year, we also have launched a new Virtual Freshers Fayre, where you can head online to get information about a range of different societies, sports clubs, student groups, as well as exclusive online deals whether you are studying on campus or around the world.

Visit the website now by going to: www.rguunion.co.uk/virtualfayre

RGU:Union is always here to support and represent you. As your Presidents, we can’t wait to meet you all and work with you throughout the year! Our doors are always open, and if you have any questions, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

From all of us at RGU:Union, I would like to wish you a very warm welcome to Robert Gordon University!

Edward Pollock
